The Freespace collective is a collective aimed at creating, as it's name implies, free space. Space that is autonomous, space that has been reclaimed by the people existing in it, space that exists according to it's own rules. Our goal is to use this freespace to create a self sufficient world.
The main way that we create freespace in the real world is by throwing free parties. Parties, in the form of electonic music events, meant to act as spiritual rituals and social gatherings. We throw free parties to prove that, not only is a money free economy possible, it is actually preferable to one that is dependant on the corporate system. The proof is the number of people who know that our parties are better than any that money could buy.
The way we manage to throw quality events, while at the same time not going broke, is by adopting a DIY (Do It Yourself) attitude. We avoid corporate venues by reclaiming land that has been forgotten and abandoned in our cities. We avoid expensive big names and instead focus on reminding people of the quality talent practicing in basements and bedrooms right here in the city. We do our best to acquire capital resources, (generator, large tents, PA systems etc) so that we don't have to keep wasting money on rentals. And most importantly of all, we require the help of the countless partiers, DJs, artists, and everyone who makes our parties happen. And far from detracting from the experience, this onus on DIY, on everyone's participation and interaction is what makes our parties more memorable then corporate events.
It is this interaction that creates a real community that exists outside of parties. A community that is working together, finding ways to become more and more autonomous and aims eventually to free itself entirely from economic and cultural dependence on the miserable corporate world. A community that is constantly growing, and which needs you, as well as others to get involved, to help it keep growing.
This website is meant to act as a virtual freespace. A place for everyone to exchange art and ideas. A place for you to learn about what our goals are, what are plans are. A place for you to learn how you can get involved and help dream the future. And a network aimed at making our community more self sufficient by facilitating resource exchange in every way possible.
